Before your endoscopy
Prior to your exam, you will be asked about your background, allergies, family history, and medications in order to determine the best procedure for you.
On the day of your procedure, your stomach must be completely empty. You should not eat or drink anything for approximately 8 hours before the exam.
It may be necessary to adjust or avoid medication, so it is important that you inform us about all the medications you take, as well as any drug allergies.
Most medications can be continued as usual. The use of medications such as aspirin, pain relievers, and blood thinners should be discussed before the exam.
In addition, if you have any serious medical condition, such as heart or lung disease, that may require special attention during the procedure, you must inform us.
Remember to bring someone to take you home afterward, as you will be sedated during the procedure, and sedatives can impair your judgment and reflexes for the rest of the day.
If you are having a colonoscopy, you will need to prepare by taking a laxative to ensure your bowel is as clean as possible for a proper examination. This will be explained to you during your initial consultation.
