CPRE
ERCP stands for Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography. It is a procedure used to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the bile ducts, which are the tubes that carry bile from the liver to the gallbladder and small intestine.
During the procedure, an endoscope—a thin, flexible tube with a camera at the tip—is used to access the bile ducts and pancreatic ducts.
An ERCP usually takes 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the specific condition and the complexity of the procedure.
Medical instructions
-
When gallstones become trapped in the main bile ducts.
-
After surgical complications or when a condition causes yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice).
