Inguinal hernia
An inguinal hernia occurs when an organ (usually the intestine) "comes out" through a weak spot or tear in the groin muscle wall, forming a bulge in that area.
It may not cause symptoms, however it can present complications such as the contents of the hernia being unable to return to their position, causing a decrease in blood flow, becoming potentially fatal.
In the event of a complication like this, emergency surgical treatment is essential.
Surgery is recommended to avoid these complications.
Surgery: Inguinal plasty
Inguinal hernias do not disappear on their own, and the only treatment is surgery to repair the hernia and strengthen the muscles in the groin area. This can be an open or laparoscopic (minimally invasive) procedure.
